Day 2 : Renovation

Renovation officially starts today.

Door being whacked down and all work starting.... They had even placed the aircond's pipe!

And guess what.., its second day and budget had been BURST..!!!

Decided to do sliding door for master bedroom, which cost many more monies.....

Had finally decided on the kitchen cabinets contractor too.

So, more a less everything had finalized. Pheew.....

The shocked I got when I went to check before passing the key to Contractor.
The tampered glass in the toilet shattered!
WTF! How could this even happened....???? Imagine it shattered when one of us was showering????
And guess what... I called the guy in charge of defects rectification.., and apparently, ours is the 4th house that had this issue!
And yet they doing nothing about it????? Isn't it consider hazard???
Anyway, on brighter side.., luckily this happened BEFORE I start my renovation. Else., they sure blame us!

Day - 1 : Renovation Planning

In two more days and the renovation shall be officially starting.... Keeping fingers crossed that all shall goes as planned.

Last week had been crazy.., especially the last few days.

We had met at least 4 kitchen contractors.... 2 wet-works contractors.... 1 grill contractors....

And don't ask me how many electrical shops had we visited...... I am tired even before the renovation starts.

And... me & J had lots of "discussion" sessions..... on what to do and agree on it.... and how much to budget for the renovation.....

I dare not look into the amount we needed to spend before we can move in...... I can now totally understand when CY told me that she felt so poor after buying + renovating her house....

Though I have J to share the burden with.... I still feel SO POOR!

I guess, what need to be renovated..., need to be done... so, might as well enjoy the moment.., by that, I mean, enjoy the craziness...

I been very busy since the Chinese New Year started.

I went to Hong Kong with family for 5-days.

I have friends came home from overseas.

And, I had been eating non-stop!

The photo shows the celebration of 9th day of CNY, which is a very important celebration for Hokkien.

We prayed to the God of Sky (Tee Kong), offering food and prayers.., with the hope for a blessed year, both wealth and health.

CSR

Today, I joined one of my business partner's company's CSR effort. They do this on yearly basis, normally towards CNY.

This is my second time joining them. We went to this orphanage, which houses some old people too.... There are total of about 60++ ppl in the house, including the caretakers. Am not sure who funded this home though. Its in Jinjang.., far deep.

Anyway, I went with J. And we helped out with the rest of team. There are total of about 20++ of us.

I am fine in helping out and doing all these work. But from my observation, these kids, they are given a roof over their top, but nobody teach or guide them about survival.

For instance, they are not taught of how to keep the place or the environment clean. The place was in such a mess when we went. Toilets were dirty, house were dirty etc.....

And, when we were helping them to clean and fix things, all the kids just sit there and play and watch.

They are used to people come and help them clean up and fix things. And, everyone that comes, just help do that. Nobody taught them how to fix the stuffs, how to clean it, and most importantly, how to take care of themselves and the home.

I don't know... I don't mind to help them, but.., I want them to learn.., and I want them to be part of the "gotong-royong" effort...

Just imagine... Your mum come and help you clean your house, but you just sit around doing nothing and let her clean... Acceptable? No?

I don't know... Probably just me. But I do voice out to my business partner.., and told him that next time, we should include the kids into the cleaning up etc instead of us just coming over and do the work like this... And he agrees.

Hong Kong, here I come...

Today is my last day in office, for 2011...
Yeah, am still HERE, in office at 8pm. Trying to finish some stuffs before I go home to pack...

Yeah! Finally, one more short break before the New Year with New Challenges begins...

I am going to Hong Kong, with my ol' friends. Friends from school..., friends from hometown.
We had amazing trip together in Bali, two-years ago....
Hope we have the same this time too.

But I think..., this trip will be more expensive than the Bali's..... coz Hong Kong is NOT CHEAP!

Hope all of us shall enjoy then. Shall write more when am back...

Meanwhile.... Happy New Year to all my friends. Hope this year had been a good one for you, and next year shall be better.

The planning starts..

After gotten the keys to our home., its time for planning.

We just wanted a simple renovation. But turns out, what we wanted was not considered "simple renovation"...

Ooooh uuuh....

So now, we trying to "simplified" it, yet achieve what we want..

What we want ah? Well., below are some of the list..

1 - Kitchen.., a simple yet functional? I always like spacious and functional kitchen.. So, we had agreed to put that as our priority. -Moreover, how can we move in without proper kitchen, right?

2 - Knock down our living hall's wall.., so that we can have the island type of counter top built with cabinets underneath and at the back as "new wall"

3 - Extend the toilet for our master bedroom... J says the toilet is "too small"

4 - Door from master bedroom to the balcony..

5 - Grille to corner-up the slab so that it became a balcony (J has an even bigger & ambitious idea.., but I told him to do something simple, and add-on later...)

6 - Grille up all the windows.., security reason. I personally do not like the grille's idea... Feels like its "grilled-up"... But oh well, practicality is more important I guess...

7 - And of coz, wardrobe... Just a normal one. Can't find space to do my all-time-dream's walk-in-wardrobe... Sob sob sob., how sad. :(

And more.., but those need to wait., and shall be on "Phase 2".

We are identifying "potential" contractors now... Getting quotations to be compared... Wonder how big the burned whole will be....?

But of course, before we can start on all these.., we got to do a check on the "defective list" first, and pass back to the Developer..You know, like QA your house.. This task, I had assigned it to J. He "supposingly" to be an expert on this area.

Btw, you guys shall be "bombarded" with my experience on these whole thing at this space., coz am going to use it to keep myself and you guys updated on the progress.

Wish me luck... :)

Time flies... and we have less than 30-days to say goodbye to 2011.

As usual, as human, we like to wait till last minute...

Suddenly, we start asking ourselves..., what had we done this year? Had we done enough? Did we achieve what we target for this year?

Let's see if I achieved anything this year..

I think for business, am not doing enough or great this year. Got to work harder.

As for personal, I think I achieved much... or rather, I should say, am blessed.

I bought house with J, and "strengthen" our relationship in many ways...

Am happier... though sometimes he still can find ways to irritates me.

I did a 9-days hiking trip in Nepal. I cut my hair much shorter than my typical bob...

Bought my first DSLR.....

What else.... hmmmmmpppph..... I guess its time to start thinking about what I want to achieve for next year then....

Since I am a freshie on DSLR, I signed up for Lumix's Workshop recently. Paid RM50 for it, and it was held in KL Bird Park. They made the RM50 worth by giving you back 2 x 2GB memory card and also feed you with foods....

I just came back from the workshop, and am proud of myself. Why? This is why....
I won the best shot of the day, for Wildlife category. There were 3 categories.., macro, wildlife and model.

Yeah! I was surprise too., though happy and proud. This is my winning photo.

I am really freshie.... and learnt a few "tricks" and "tips" on how to take nicer photos., and how to handle the camera better....

Overall, all I can say... its a good workshop. Relaxing and Fun.

Never lie to a kid..

I just have to share this story..

First part of the story happened many months ago, at least 6-months ago.

It was just another weekend, and I went to Raju @ Jalan Gasing for breakfast with family. I dropped them off @ Raju first, and I can't find place to park, so I parked far far away, at grassy patch in front of a bungalow.

Then, when we walked back to the car.., my eldest nephew asked me.."Xiao ee, why park so far....??"
I casually answered him.."I parked in front of my house ma... My house so far away.."

Few weeks later, I was talking to my sister (can't recall what was it about anyway...), then my nephew said.."I can have my birthday party at Xiao ee's big house.."
So I told him.."But I haven't got the keys to my house.."
Guess what he answered..."No, not the one near your office..., but the one near Raju!"
I was stunned.... And I explained to him that I was joking, and that was not my house. Then he said.."But I told my best friend that my Xiao ee have 3 houses"
I was speechless....

Then, this happened last weekend while I was out of town.

My eldest brother brought my nephews and mum for breakfast @ Raju. Then my brother can't find a place to park.....

Guess what my smart nephew said...

"Go park at Xiao ee's house!"

Seriously, I don't know how to explain to him that THAT house is NOT mine!

My very first DSLR

Finally, I succumbed to the frenzy of DSLR. I always like the nice photos taken from DSLR.., but never really go into it.

One of the reason is cost I guess.., I think it is an expensive hobby.

When the "mini-DSLR" came out, it kinda hit on me. I like the size, and like the fact that I can get good quality photo from it, and its small enough to be carried around.

Well, it still big, compared to the point-and-shoot camera... but, it is smaller than the real DSLR.

"Ass-itch" (translate to Hokkien and you should get the meaning), and I walked into the camera shop today. And, there it goes.... there goes my RMXXXX! Well, I don't want to share how much I spent here, else, I will get an earful from few people....

Here... this is my new Lumix GF2! Yeah, it is in RED, my favorite color.. How can I resist, right? To make sure its worth my "investment", I promise to fully utilize it, and take tones of photos....

Wedding Bells....

For those who get excited seeing the title..., hold on there.

Yeah, wedding bells are ringing around me.., but its not MINE. Well, not yet.

Recently, a close friend announced to me and a group of close friend, via email, that she is getting ROM in about a month. The power of EMAIL huh....

Of coz, all very excited, and also congratulates her.., via EMAIL.

I accompanied her to research on wedding bands today.., and I just realized.. GOSH! Its no-cheap! Seriously, wedding is really not cheap ohhhhhhh.......

Then, yesterday, I got another "wedding-invitation", via BBM! (Blackberry Messager la...)

One of my business partner messaged me via BBM and told me that he is getting married this coming 11-11-11 and am invited to attend his wedding. (power of digital-communication huh...)

I was like.... eh.., harlow., I see you almost everyday, and you informed me like... so last minute?

I actually had a prior plan... to go diving. Live-On-Board some more.... Dive + Eat!

Oh well, in view of our close relationship, I got to opt to attend his wedding instead of Diving....

So happy for both of them. Shall update more with pictures soon...

Don't be mistaken, I didn't spell it wrongly... and nope, its not my brother's name swapped over...

Soon Hock is a type of fish, which is very yummy and its market rate fetching almost RM100 / KG.

For the first time in my life., and I had a chance to taste it early this week. J was very lucky and caught one that weigh almost one kilo..

To add to that honor, J decided to COOK it himself. This is the second time he cook fish that he caught himself.... He said, its too good a fish to be passed to the shop to cook.

Fine by me, no complain.

Verdict : Best fish I ever tasted!

Yesterday, TODAY, Tomorrow....

I saw this in a forum today, and it just makes me ponder....

"Between Yesterday’s MISTAKES...and Tomorrow’s HOPE...there lies a fantastic opportunity...that is TODAY!!!...life never provides Warranties and Guarantees… only Possibilities & Opportunities!... so we must be alert always...and work on today’s possibilities…"

We were always told not to ponder the past..... not to keep looking at yesterday's mistakes..
But, do not forget, it was mistakes that we made in the past made us a stronger and brighter person today.

Yes, we should try to forgive and forget others mistakes, but I think, we should remember our own mistakes, so that we don't repeat it again.

I always tell my team, its Okay to make mistake... but don't repeat it!

About tomorrow, I think yes, we should always look forward tomorrow (and future). I always believe in this.., if we don't plan, we plan to fail. Anyway, its always easier say than do. Its frustrating when we plan.., but things don't happen according to what we want, right? But my advice, plan it anyway.... and try to make sure it happen.

How about TODAY? Some people feels their "today" is too long.., some felt its never enough hours in a day.... Well, coz most of us, spent our TODAY thinking about what happened yesterday..., and what's going to happen tomorrow...Hence, there goes most of the hours in our TODAY. So, how do we handle it then...? Hmmmm, how about do a long term plan (so you don't need to do planning on daily basis?) And stop harping on what had happened? With that, you have more time to do what you want to do, TODAY.

So, my philosophy.... : always plan for tomorrow and future, but never forget about mistakes that we did yesterday, and remember to enjoy TODAY. Life's short, Enjoy and Appreciate it...

Remember, life never provides warranties & guarantees, but possibilities and opportunities!

Is our country "cleaner" after today?

My opinion about today's rally?

Its not the demonstrators fault at all... everyone just want to make a statement.

Its not their fault that they go out, representing a bigger group of people whom didn't.

Its not their fault that the roads are closed or jam....

Whose fault it is then? I think its how the whole thing is handled. Why is the authority being such a coward and needed to hide behind the Police?

Why make the policemen block the road and jam up the country? Spray the tear gas to the public? Spray water..?

Do they realized how much monies are lost, for the retailer in the city especially?

All because they do not want to listen to the people. Just learn to LISTEN and it will make you a better leader.

Is Malaysia a Democratic Country?

I love living in this country.

Why?

1 - I grew up here.
2 - My family & friends are here. And these matter, because they are part of my life.
3 - I am comfortable here?

Many people had asked me before.., do I prefer Singapore or Malaysia?

I used to live & work in Singapore for few years, hence the reason of comparison.

I always tell people that I prefer Malaysia. Malaysian practices a more balanced life. Malaysia is full of colors.

Am I right or am I wrong?

Recently, with the hoo-haa on the upcoming rally etc... , I looked at the way our government handled the situation..., it seemed like we are not in a democratic country.

Why do I say that... Honestly, what's so wrong with listening to the people? What's so wrong in wanting a transparent and better practice?

Don't our PM have a better PR people to help him handle this? I think their PR with the people is in such a mess now....

With all these going on.., I really wonder if our country is really a democratic one that we claimed to?

The older generation are actually worried about this upcoming rally.... they worried it will be another May 13th....

My mum and J's mum asked us to stock up on food...... Seriously, do we need to?

I had coffee with a friend recently, and we had a chat. As usual, she is concerned about my future. Seemed like lots of my friends/family/relatives are concern about me being not-married at this age.

So this friend asked... "Now you guys had bought a place together, so what's next? Getting married soon?"

Well.., I don't really know what to answer her... coz, deep inside, I don't really know what I want.

Do I want to get married soon? Yes? Maybe? Not sure?

Honestly, I really not sure!

Certain days, I think I do... certain days, I scared to lost my "freedom" (even though we are living together now.., am not really "obligated" to tell J where I go etc... )

I don't know... I think being together, living together is way different than MARRIED TOGETHER, right?

Am I thinking too much? Or is it its the "buying-house-together" that gets onto me?

For now.., let's focus on one thing at a time....

We are actually very excited about the new house.. we had started our plan on what to renovate, what to buy etc... and trust me, the amount of monies we need to spend.., scare both of us.....

Does Companies get "Stupider" when they GROW???

Stupid MAS Wings (wholly-owned company of MAS) spoilt my day early in the morning. (this post was written few days ago..)

Let me share the scenario.... and also hence why the title of my post...

My tech manager is in East Malaysia for quarterly preventive maintenance for a client. So, as usual, schedule is always planned, and its very tight. So, there's no room for FLIGHT CANCELLATION or CHANGE OF TIME.

Oh well, but, MAS WINGS managed to do that. And, guess what, he supposed to fly at 10am from Tawau to Sandakan. And, at 8.45am, MAS WINGS messaged him and informed him about the flight cancellation!
For God sake, he was already in airport by then; and walking towards the check-in counter!

Guess what's their offer to the cancellation? I spoken to the counter person (my colleague was so pissed that he called me, and let me talk to that guy... )

The stupid guy told me these:-

Our contract / responsibility is only to bring you from Point A to Point B.
And, there are only 2 options now:-
1 - We give you taxi voucher to take you from Sandakan to Tawau
2 - You wait for 5pm's flight.

Problems are:-
1 - My tech manager have a connecting flight from Sandakan to KK at 3pm via Air Asia.
2 - He need to visit a customer site BEFORE the flight.

So I told Mr A, the stupid guy at the counter.... "Fine, you get him to Point B, as promised time, before 11am! "

Guess what's his response?

You only have these two choices, if you want to complain, complain to our Management.!

And I told him, Okay, I will. And, btw, you are working for the most useless airlines!

Now, why my post tittle...
A taxi ride from Tawau to Sandakan will cost them RM350, and its payable to THIRD PARTY. So, if they had allowed my colleague to change his ticket from Tawau direct to KK., it cost them ALMOST NOTHING!

So, they rather throw away their RM350, and at the same time get a very unhappy customer. (Actually not only one unhappy customer... they forgotten about the power of SOCIAL MEDIA!).

Yoga, here I come!

I been wanting to try it.., but as usual, been dragging my ass...
Finally, my ass got lighter and I make appointment to attend the 1st trial class this evening.
Oooohhhhh... Finally, I got a taste of what is "restorative" yoga. Stretch punya stretch.... I survived the 1-hour class, sweating!
Actually, am amazed... I mean, I never knew that stretching can really make you sweat so much!
Okay, am not trying to exaggerate here, but my shoulder do feel better.., not as stiff as this afternoon.
And.... I signed up for a one-month-unlimited class.., which I plan to attend the morning class, everyday!

Chitwan National Park

After the 9-days trek, we chilled out at this national park, watching animals...

We were lucky to spot numbers of them.. especially Sloth bear which were rarely spotted. And we saw a couple of them... cuddling and playing with each other.

It was a 5-sec experience and we didn't manage to capture it on our camera.; but nevertheless, we managed to capture it in our memory... they were so cute.

And that marked the end of our trip in Chitwan..., before taking an 8-hour bus ride on a bus similar to our bus-sekolah back to Kathmandu....

Do you know that chips can start the fire in BBQ?
Well, J knew about it, but totally forgotten about that.; and this is the result..

He almost burnt the toaster!
How did this happen? Well, the chips we bought gotten a bit soft.., so I was complaining about it.

He, decided to "toast" it a bit to make it crunchier....
In few mins.... This is the result..

And it was BURNING when he took it out from the toaster!
I panicked and didn't capture the burning photos....

So, remember.., NEVER TOAST YOUR CHIPS, unless you want to start fire...

Journey to Ananpurna Base Camp - Part 3

One of the thing that I enjoyed most on the trek was, meeting people.

We met a group of nice Czech's family, son-in-law whom travelled with the parents-in-law...
It was nice to see that a son in law can be so close to the father in law...
After chatting with them, only then we realized, they were friends before the son-in-law courted the daughter....

Then, an old French couple whom had trekked more parts of the world than any three of us. Though they are already in their 70s, but they are still STRONG! They are planning to come to Malaysia soon too.., and I shall be their host.

Finally, of coz, our nice porters; whom carried our bags without any complain and also our Guide whom handle all our needs during the trek. Nice people.

Do we, Malaysian, really saved enough? OR, does the writer actually only see a very small percentage of Malaysian?

I am not trying to be racist here..., but I do think, some race know the need to save, because we know that we are not supported by the Government.

BUT, there are also race (i rather not spell it out here..) that don't save. They don't care, coz they know the Government will take care of them.; right? Probably not as pampered as the Brits.., but still?

I better remind myself to work harder and start saving... or at least invest...

Its been almost a month since I came back from Nepal. Finally, here I am, get my ass seated and blog about it, before I forget the details of the trip.

I took about 3-weeks off work for this trip.

This was the summary of my travel itinerary.

KUL - BKK - Kathmandu - Pokhara - Ananpurna Trek - Pokhara - Chitwan National Park - Kathmandu - BKK - KUL

But for now, am going to blog about the 9-days trek on Ananpurna.
Well, lots of friends asked me, whether is the trek difficult?
I think its not tough, its not so much about stamina (though its nice to have that), but more about mental. I almost give up during my trek up Poon Hill (to watch sunrise at 5am).
But am glad that I didn't give up, and just keep going on.

I travelled with EJ & LS for this trip. We didn't kill each other at the end of the trip, so, I think we are compatible traveling partners. ;)
The Immigration Officer even stamped me & EJ's passport on the SAME PAGE as where we got our stamp for Europe's trip.

The highest point we went up was about 4,130M and that's Ananpurna Base Camp.

At the beginning of the trek

Let's start with FOOD, the most important element in all my travels.

Different type of breads served on trek.

Typical local food : Momo (which became LS' fav food, and she ordered it almost EVERY DAY) & Dhal Bath (local ate this as frequent as we eat our rice... Ya, Daily Basis.)

Yummy Korean noodle at the height of 3,700M. Instant noodle never tasted so good!

Now, ROOM that we stayed in. Mostly were pretty decent, except, its "acceptable" that you can hear everyone's conversation, or even their SNORE.

One of the night, I can REALLY hear one of our neighbor snore, as if I was sharing the same BED with him! And LS actually can feel when her "neighbor" tossed around.

And, one of the room had RAT that bitten our bag and ate our food, while another one caused us had a "catch-the-cockroach-frenzy", and I sprayed a quarter can of Ridsect on it!

Cozy sleeping bag was my best sleeping companion during this trek. Thanks to J for lending me this nice & comfy bag.

Yes, I am a practicing Buddhist. At least, I try as much as possible.

I had a discussion with two friends recently, on whether Buddhism is a religion, or teaching?
We were confused, and not sure.

So, I googled, and found this excerpt from Wikipedia.
Buddhism (Pali/Sanskrit: बौद्ध धर्म Buddha Dharma) is a religion and philosophy encompassing a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices, largely based on teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as the Buddha (Pāli/Sanskrit "the awakened one").

And, another excerpt from another website cites this:-

To many, Buddhism goes beyond religion and is more of a philosophy or 'way of life'. It is a philosophy because philosophy 'means love of wisdom' and the Buddhist path can be summed up as:

After 9-days of trekking.., with an average of 6-hours walk each day.., with aches at almost every part of the legs, am back to the city.

Nope, not back home yet, but just done trekking. Days spent in the mountains are really good for soul.

I always wanted to own a landed property.

Always wanted to have more space. I can see some of you raised your eyebrows.

"What?? Your current "almost-1000-sqft" not sufficient??? Just two of u!

Haaaa... I guess you guys know me. I always like bigger. :p

Anyway, I always wanted to have a lil more space.., and landed property. Where I can have dog if I want.. Or just a lil small garden... A bigger kitchen!

A space for my "oversized" washing machine.

I feel blessed and grateful for it. Am just happy... Of coz, it comes with hefty price tag.. Guess just need to slough through it like a slave then.

Moving office... A.G.A.I.N!

Been up to my neck last week(s), looking for a suitable place to lease. (Current landlord finally managed to sell of the place, and obviously, the new owner wants "vacant" possession)

Its not easy coz, tough to find a place that I deemed suitable, and fit the "affordability".

Finally, found this and signed the lease last week.

Managed to round up contractors of all sorts..: glass-door-maker, grille fabricator, wire-men, carpet-provider and the list goes on..

Thanks to J for helping on this (the contractors are mostly is his contacts..) Though we are on each others back for disagreement of all sorts...

I want to put here, he thinks otherwise...
I want to do this, he thinks otherwise..

Finally, floor plan is drawn & finalize..
And contractor can start work tomorrow...

All these are PART 1....

Now, need to plan for packing up the things in office.., and move!

The feeling of moving office is always contradicting.... One hand, Excited... On the other.., Dread..

Oh well, what to do.. Since we needed to relocate, am hoping we doing our best to fit up our new office....

Life's Unpredictable

Got a call (few days ago) from my mum informing me about one of my niece (cousin's daughter) passed away.
Though the news didn't come as surprise, its still disheartening.

She was a year younger than me, leaving behind her mum, husband and a six year old son.

She been diagnosed with tongue cancer and had went through surgery. Life had not been easy for her since then. The cancer taken a toll on her life, for almost 3-years. She weigh less than 30KG when she passed.

We attended her funeral yesterday, and its really not very pleasant to see older generation to send off the younger.

All I want to say is, please, all my dear friends, do take care of yourself. Eat well & healthy. Do regular health check up.

Busting the "What If"

Saw this article while at my favorite (or ONLY) hairdresser's place, while waiting for her to touch up my hair (trim & color). Fine, am vain. :p

Anyway, saw this in Cleo, Feb 2011's Edition, and think it might benefits lots of us. Since I have lots of time in hand, I decided to share part of the article here. (I need to type it, Okay..)

"Regret, by definition, is sadness associated with an error or disappointment. It's a process in which we spin out the various alternate endings a situation could'vbe had : What if I'd moved to the big city? What if I'd done a different degree? What if I'd been a better girlfriend/daughter/friend? What if I hadn't ordered the prawns?
At best, regret is a constructive tool that gives us a sting when we've messed up, ensuring that we learn our lesson and don't repeat the same mistakes.
At worst, regret becomes and endless, torturous game of "what if?". Personified, it'd be like a childhood bully grabbing your hand and slapping you with it, all the while asking, "Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself?".
Clearly, the lesson learnt is preferable to the self-flagellation. But unfortunately, many women fixate on their perceived failings, mentally slapping themselves into a crippling state of negativity.
According to psychologist Jacqui Manning (www.mindadvantage.com.au), the most common things young women regret are losing friends, not getting out of toxic friendship or relationship earlier, break-ups, missing out on career opportunities, and taking on stressful jobs.
"Everyone has regrets," says Manning. "But does everyone dwell on them 100 percent of the time? No. That's where resilience comes in. Some people are naturally strong-minded and bounce back from anything, and some need help to learn how to do that."
Dealing with disappointment and regret is like coming to a fork in the road - one way leads downwards to rumination and guilt; the other way leads upwards to a better version of yourself.

How to deal with regret

Write down your regrets. This clarifies them in your mind.
Examine them. Understand the reasons behind your decisions.
Change your toxic thought patterns. For example, replace "I didn't take that job and now my life's ruined" with "I did the best that I could with the resources I had at the time."
Grieve losses that you have suffered. Acknowledge that you feel sad or angry about the situation.
Make amends. Apologize for something you've done.

I hope this article helps you guys to get over regrets, if any.
Just remember, everything happens for a reason. There is no point harping on the past, as there is nothing we can do to change what happened. Instead, why don't we focus on what we can do to improve the future?

Adventure with ropes and platforms

I had been wanting to try this out for a while, but never get around doing it.

Finally got an invitation from friends to do it together with them.

The challenges were fun. My only complain, we spent too much time waiting.

Because there was a big group before us, and some of them were the "typical woman"
You know, those type that..."aaarhh... i scared...cannot jump ah.. aaaarggghh... i scared i hurt my nails...."
Make me wonder why they even bother to come for this "extreme sports" then.

We ended up spending about an hour waiting for them to finish the training round, and another hour for them to complete the 1st challenge. So, my advice, must try to get the 1st slot if we are going to do this again. So we won't need to waste those hours waiting.

Only then we are able to start. Our stomach were already growling while waiting.., so two of our friends went out and get breads for us.

After munching the bread, all of us have the energy, and all geared up to start the challenge.
There were about 17 challenges in total (they said 20, but the 20 is inclusive of 3 that is "mini challenge", which is actually the training ground...)

My favorite challenge(s) are : the Tarzan thingy and Flying Fox.
In one of the flying fox challenge, I was bounced back half-way (I was supposed to try to "hug" the tree and pull myself up to the platform, but instead, I kicked the tree and it sent me half-way back) and hang in the middle, and needed "rescuer". The "instructor" (ya, that's what they called them, the staffs whom "guard" the area in case anyone needs help) to threw another rope to me, and pull me over to the platform.

We were only done by about 4pm. All sweaty and hungry, we end the day with refreshing Root Beer Float & Corney Dog.....

And this morning, I woke up to a very aching but firmer muscles... Good workout I would say. :)

Chinese New Year

I can summarize my CNY's celebration with following activities:-

EAT and EAT and EAT and EAT (almost non-stop throughout the 15-days)

SLEEP and SLEEP and SLEEP (a lot... though always feel not enough though)

GAMBLE.... and Gamble.... (twice only, and I won both times.... happy....)

And Pray too... for better luck in everything this year.

9th Day of CNY is the New Year for Hokkien, and we pray to "Tee Kong" (God of Heaven?).

Used to celebrate this in a very big way when I was much younger. It is a big deal back in hometown. Trust me, you can forget about sleeping on that night if you are in a place surrounded by HOKKIEN.

And celebrated Chap Goh Meh with J, CY and Jon. Went for dinner, tasting this yummy fish caught by J in Kg Cold Stream. Chap Goh Meh is also known as Chinese Valentine Day (see, V-Day is not really a Christianity religious thingy... Just can't understand why "certain" people made such a big fuss over it.... religious konon... Can't they tell the different between Religious and Cultural???)

Okay... as the pictures tells the stories.... I admit, I spent 70% of my CNY EATING!

Being brought up in a Chinese family, with believes in Buddhism, and lost my dad when I was 17, I think I can say that I am a strong believer that Blood, Sweat and Tears are the pre-requisite for Success.

It been more than 10-years am in the business that am still in now. Looking back, I think I had went through a lot for this business. Trust me, really a lot.

And, am starting to see achievement for the business, and we are growing.
Honestly, seeing the success, it does instill some fear into me. I am scared that what if things don't keep growing.

What if I don't manage to keep the success level?
What if things goes wrong..?
What if... what if....

S.C.A.R.Y!

I want to take bigger steps in certain things, both in business and personal.
But I scared. I am worried if I can keep growing...

Then, a voice in my mind keep telling me.... "Don't worry... just do it!"
Really? Should I?

Looking at things now, at least from business perspective, I come to believe one thing.
Its true when people say, money makes money.

With a decent cash flow now, we are able to invest in product development.
We are able to invest in our R&D. Improve our products' quality and also expand the range.
We are also able to invest and hire people whom specialized in certain area.

I came this far, by going through the blood, sweat and tears....
And I know this is not the end.
Even when you have a taste of Success, you should not stop.
You need to move forward, and sweat even more, to make sure you taste even more Success.

So, am not going to worry too much now, am just going to move forward, and believe that, with my supportive partners, family and team, I should look forward.

I put a BIG SMILE in my team and business partners yesterday.
Why? Because I gave them what they deserves. They share the SUCCESS too.

For now, I am happy with what I had done for the company so far.
And no, am not stopping, but just taking a very short break, to inhale the CNY's mood.

After keeping my hair long for slightly more than a year, I decided to cut it short.

Had too many bad hair days that make me took this decision.

I was day-dreaming today, about buying a 3-storey Semi D worth RM1.6millions....

Then, called a friend whom is knowledgeable in Property, and did some calculation with him, and "dooooshhhh-kaaaboooommmmmm"

I woke up from my dream!

Its really damm-a-lot of mooooolah to pay per month for those commitments.

I am not prepared to give up luxury in lifestyles, such as holidays, massages, shopping, good food... in exchange for luxury home.

Seriously, with the prices of houses hitting the roof.., I wonder when will I ever be able to afford home of my dream?

All I wanted is double-storey-semi-d... Too much too ask?

And another year had came....

I hope 2011 will be a better year though 2010 is not a bad year too.

Should I make the typical new year's resolution? But not sure if I can keep it or not oh....

Actually, 2010 been a great year to me.

In terms of work, relationship and also holidays.

Work, I achieved my target.
Relationship, things are getting better and clearer and more committed.
Holidays, I finally got to travel to Europe!

So, for 2011, am not going to set any resolutions... but all I can say, I will do my best in every area and live with no regrets.

Hence, for a start, am going to hike Nepal this year!

So for now, will need to plan my training for the 10-days hike trip and the thought itself already made me sweat.....

I woke up 6ish to send my sis to my nephew's school.., and decided not to waste my morning....
So I came back and walked for 10mins and ran for 5mins.., and walked up 15-storey of stairs, which took me about 4mins...
And am half-dead! How la like this eh...???
Must seriously start training...... Can't delay till after CNY lo..

After CY sent me an email asking if wanna go for Christmas Musical, I just said yes and bought the tickets for myself and J.

Oblivious to the title, it didn't hit me, and J, that's its "church-type-of-play"...

Nevertheless, it was nice show, with free Ribena to drink.. :)

Day 18 : Home sweet home...

After traveling for almost 24-hours, am finally home. Lying on my favorite spot of the home...

Trip been great, and had burnt a big hole in my bank, but its all worth it.

Will write more soon.

For now, need to unpack....

Day 17 : Goodbye Paris.. Goodbye Europe

Its end of my weeks long vacation.
I never take such a long break away from work before.
For 10-years in the company, this is my 1st time staying away from it for so long.
Am very proud of my team for handling the clients and also operations in office during my absence.
I proved a point. The company is ready to operate without me. Am very proud of it.
Now I can have a more balance life.
Guess what, I came with 12-KG luggage, and only one bag.
Am coming back with 2 check-in luggage, totaling to 32.4KG! And one hand-carry luggage and my small back pack!
Trust me, 50% of the contents are for friends & family.
I miss them all already.....

Day 16 : Last night in Paris

Feeling heavy-hearted as I packed my bag.

Yup, coming home soon... Very very soon indeed.

Had a great night, and met up with a friend. Had good chat and it was good catch up. Bring back memories....

I don't think I will miss Paris, but will definitely miss this friend.

Day 15 : Touring Paris

Went to Lourve, Sacred Heart Church & Notre Dam.

Had nice dinner and met up with friend.

Day 14 : Bullet-Off to Paris

Took the bullet train to Paris from London. Realized that you do get pressure too even if you travels horizontal. Oh well, I normally only gets it when I fly or dive.., which is vertical. Am not sure what speed it was traveling at, but definitely fast. The ride was about 2-hours, and cost us about GBP36.

It was nightmare dragging our luggages around, at the tube in London.

Sigh, what to do, totally forgotten about the weight when we shopped!

We are so definitely taking cab to airport on Friday.

Day 13 : London Bridge is falling down..

Falling Down...

I remembered the song from my younger day. Of coz, I doubt they favor this song.

The nice bridge is actually Tower Bridge and not London Bridge.

Went to St Paul and catch up with another friend.

Went for Afternoon Tea @ Harrods, but don't find its nice or worth...

And end the night with nice dinner at a local pub that serves authentic simple thai food. Yummy food and very nice environment, and it doesn't hurt the wallet...

Day 12 : Act of Effection...

Mr Moore plays tour guide today, and we paid him with a cup of latte & croissant. Not sure if he is always so nice, or he is trying to make an impression. ;)

Okay okay, to be fair, he is nice, and I think its for real, and not for the "impression".

We plan to start off early, but oh well, with breakfast at home, we chat till it was a bit later than planned when we leave home.

It was Remembrance Day, hence lots of people were around Big Ben & Westminster area. It was touching to see how all of the people there were genuinely appreciating those who lost their life in wars. And there were total silence for about 10mins. Can u imagine, there were thousands of people there, but it was COMPLETE silence for 10-mins! I doubt it will ever happen in our home country.

We walked and took some photos, and took a stroll through St James Park to go to Buckmingham Palace. Due to the celebration, we were not able to go near the Palace or the Guards. So, I didn't manage to "jentik" the guard as requested by J.

Then we went for Hong Kong style Dim Sum, and EJ happily munch down her favorite fried custard bun with CONDENSE MILK. (Well, she was very convince that they do serve with milk, while LS told her she never ate the bun with milk. Oh well, EJ won, they do serve with the milk, if u request...)

And we continued shopping till all the shops closed.. Note : Its Sunday, so they were closed by 6pm....

I also learnt that Curry is the official food for UK! Weird right? I thought its Fish & Chips. So, we ordered delivery of the Indian food to LS home then.... And I didn't eat fish & chips at all in London!
